"Seeing a need for correlation of city and school district facilities and a need to avoid duplication of services, Nikkel brought about cooperation between two bodies that avoided onerous taxation. Placing King Memorial Park adjacent to the schools permitted student expansion into that area. Nikkel made tennis courts available to the public when not in student use. He allowed ths schools to use of the golf course for cross country athletic events and state high school golf tounaments. He upgraded the baseball field and installed better lighting. During Nikkel's term, the city building was completed and dedicated" (Bandy, 73).
