Title
Wheat truck wreck, 1947
Subject
agriculture
automobiles
Description
Pictured is a young John Bergey atop an upside-down wheat truck in a pasture. Handwritten caption: 1947, Summer, Western KS, Cab over Engine Ford, moments after accident. "The steering tie rod broke as I was going 50 mph over a bridge."
John also wrote, "when Lyle [Yost] arrived about 20 [minutes] later he asked me, 'Did you fall asleep?'
"I said, 'At 7 o'clock AM[?]' I suspect he did not believe me until he saw the broken tie rod."
It is possible that this is the same truck shown in Item #1802 and that one of them has the wrong date.
