Ladies of Hesston Community, approximately 1917-1918. Ocassion of this assembly was to learn how to operate and cook with an electric stove and oven. Sponsored by Razook Grocery, Bolz Lumber Co. and Kansas Gas and Electric. -- handwritten on back of photograph.
"Electricity was brought to Hesston in 1916-1917 approximately. Kansas Gas & Electric sponsored a seminar to teach how to cook with an electric stove. At rear are Sam Razook, Wayne Smith, Tim Egy (KG&E Superintendent), and William Hoffman, editor of Hesston Gazette. Some women are Edna Wedel, Mabel Razook, Lena Egy, Bertha Deschener, Grace Vogt, Laura Smith, Mabel Kauffman, Alta Erb, Mrs. John Reif, Lizzie Rilling, Ruby LaGree, Mary Stratton, Cecile Ruth, Rosa Hackenberg, Ella Shenk, Stella Egy, Nora Troyer, Edna Byler, Elsie Lyon, Lizzie Roupp, Mamie Spangler, Mrs. Wedemeyer, Alta Grove, Clara Pfautz, Suzie Howard, Cecile Hanke, and you may recognize others" (Bandy, 55).
