TORNADO!
HESSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY INVITES YOU TO BE A PART OF THE HISTORY OF THIS COMMUNITY. A NEW PROJECT FOR THE LIBRARY IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COLLECTION OF INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS ON THE MARCH 13, 1990 TORNADO. WE PLAN TO HAVE NEWSPAPER ARTICLES, PHOTOGRAPHS, VIDEOS, AUDIO-CASSETTES, AND THE NEVER-TO-BE-FORGOTTEN TRUE STORIES OF TORNADO VICTIMS. THESE STORIES, AND PICTURES WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ANYONE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO IS INTERESTED IN READING, HEARING, AND SEEING WHAT HAPPENED DURING AND AFTER THIS DISASTER.
You are invited to tell your story too. We ask that, as a family, you write down an account of your experiences on the day of the tornado. You may write in longhand, on any type of paper. The library will put each page in a notebook, and may later type out the reports in booklet form. Please be sure to sign your story, and date it. In your story, follow these guidelines:
Write about WHO was involved WHAT happened WHEN it happened WHERE you were HOW it happened.
Please do write about how you felt, and include any strange or fantastic events, that you know to be true.
The library also is interested in acquiring photographs to mount in '’Tornado" albums, and home videos of the tornado and cleanup efforts. These items also should be carefully identified. The library will reimburse for copies of photographs and videotapes.
Thank you for helping us with this project. We appreciate your cooperation and support.
